Oklahoma City Blazers Hockey

Weekend Preview: Blazers Travel to Dallas

After a successful home-opening weekend sweep of the Tulsa Oilers, the Oklahoma City Blazers head back to Dallas for their second set of games against the Dallas Snipers. One of three undefeated teams in the Western States Hockey League coming into the weekend, Oklahoma City looks to advance in the Midwest Division standings.

Last weekend, the Blazers outscored the Oilers by a cumulative score of 19-7 and swept the Oilers to move to 9-0-0 on the season. All three goaltenders earned a game in net with each of Drennen Atherton, Brock Thompson, and Phil Babb allowing no more than three goals in a game. Leading scorer Tomas Rubes put forth a huge weekend, scoring three goals and four assists as he was named the Midwest Division Player of the Week by WSHL 365.

In the first weekend series between OKC and Dallas, the Blazers outscored the Snipers 26-6 over the three-game weekend. Dallas comes into the weekend following a sweep by the hands of the Wichita Thunder. Dallas currently sits last in the Midwest Division with a 2-11-2 record.

The Blazers will look to keep their special teams success going this weekend. OKC leads the WSHL on the penalty kill with a 93.4% kill rate. Oklahoma City sits fourth in the WSHL on the power play, scoring on 30.2% of their man-advantage chances.

In other Midwest Division action this weekend, the El Paso Rhinos head to Missouri to take on the Springfield Express. Both teams currently sit first and second in the division, and will give Oklahoma City a chance to move up the standings, having played less games than both teams.

The puck drops at the Dr. Pepper Stars Center in Plano, Texas at 7:45 Friday night. The two teams meet again on Saturday at 7:00p, and conclude the weekend series on Sunday at 11:15a.

Falcone’s Pizzeria in Moore is the official watch place of Blazers Hockey this weekend featuring $15 pizzas and $1 beer specials. Falcone’s is located at 1409 N. Moore Ave, Moore OK 73160.

The Blazers next home series is Nov 18, 19, and 20 when they host the Springfield Express. For tickets call 405-601-6489.
