Weekend Preview: Blazers at Dallas 10/21 – 10/23

After a sweep of the Wichita Thunder in their opening weekend, the Oklahoma City Blazers head south of the Red River to take on the Dallas Snipers. Last season, the Blazers won the season series between the two teams, earning a 7-2-0 record over the Snipers. Oklahoma City outscored the Snipers by a cumulative score of 59-24 last season.

Dallas currently sits in last place in the Midwest Division with a record of 2-2-2. Last weekend, the Snipers were swept by the Tulsa Oilers, but gained two points after losing twice in overtime. Dallas leading scorers Peter Kutlak and Alexander Yunanov both came away with five points last weekend, as they lead the team with 11 and 10 points, respectively. All three Dallas goaltenders received a turn in net last weekend. Alexander Moustakis currently leads the team with a 3.18 Goals Against Average and a .929 Saves Percentage.

Last weekend, the Blazers opened up their season with a three-game sweep of the Wichita Thunder. After a 4-0 shutout to begin the season, the Blazers had to come from behind during Saturday’s and Sunday’s games, capping off the weekend with an overtime win. Captain Zach Paxman earned five assists on the weekend to lead the Blazers in scoring after three games. Ivan Bondarenko, Victor Ekk, and Jan Prokop all scored a pair of goals on the weekend, including Prokop’s overtime winner.

Drennen Atherton started the weekend in net for Oklahoma City, earning the shutout on Friday, and backstopping the Blazers 6-3 win on Saturday. He sits with a 1.50 Goals Against Average and a .954 Saves Percentage. Oklahoma City-native Brock Thompson earned the win on Sunday, turning aside 36 shots.

This Friday, the puck drops at 7:45p at the Dr. Pepper Star Center in Plano. Saturday’s game is set for a 7:00p start, while Sunday will be an early 11:15a start.
