Tomas Rubes Scores Twice In Win Over Colorado

The Oklahoma City Blazers returned to action following the holiday break as they traveled to Colorado to take on the Colorado Eagles. Tomas Rubes added two goals for OKC, while Drennen Atherton turned aside 36 shots in the win. Pavel Oxiouta picked up the remaining goal for the Blazers. OKC improved to 21-3-0 on the season, and now sit only eight points behind the El Paso Rhinos in the Midwest Division standings.

Oklahoma City found themselves on the penalty kill ten times during the contest. The league-leading PK unit for OKC killed off nine of those ten chances. The power play unit scored twice on five opportunities.

Colorado fell to 23-7-2 with the lost to Oklahoma City. Austin Piquette made 24 saves in the game, while the Eagles earned goals by Matt Jung and Adam Wammes.

Both teams are back in action on Saturday, January 8th at 8:30p Central Time for the second of the three-game weekend series. The game can be seen on WSHL TV and at our official watch party at Falcone’s Pizza in Moore.
