The Oklahoma City Blazers announced today that Tomas Rubes has re-signed for the 2016-17 season. The 5’10” 185 pound Czech Republic native was 3rd on the team in regular  season scoring last year notching 23 goals and 36 assists in 47 games.

“Getting Tomas back for another season was a very high priority for us moving into this year,” said Head Coach Tyler Fleck. “Ruby is dangerous all over the ice and his work ethic is arguably the best on the team. He goes hard and can score goals.”

And score he can.

Rubes likely scored the most memorable goal in new era Blazers history last March when he ended the El Paso Rhinos season in double overtime of round one of the Thorne Cup Playoffs. The Rubes OT goal ended a run of 9 consecutive division championships for El Paso.

The Blazers would go on to win their first Division Championship in franshise history.

“I’m really looking forward for the another season in Blazers and see all my friends from OKC. It’s finally time for hockey after long summer. I believe that we will have great and strong team like last season. We have to work hard every day,” said Rubes from the Czech Republic on Wednesday.

“I expect Ruby to be one of the top players in the league this year. Our fans know when he’s on the ice there’s a very good chance something good is about to happen and he thrives on it,” Fleck said.

“Everyone knows that we have best fans in the league, I’m looking forward to hearing them in the games again. I’m excited to be back in OKC. Once a Blazer, always a Blazer.”
