The Bullet Strikes Again!

Sorkin puts the bullet in Tulsa

Oklahoma City Blazers centerman Johan Sorkin is quickly becoming a massive Tulsa killer. The guy his teammates have nicknamed “The Bullet” for his big league speed was the hero again on Friday as the Blazer beat the Oilers in Tulsa in double OT. It was the second time in 3 games that the Blazers and Oilers went into the second overtime frame but it was the exact same outcome. Sorkin scored the game winner, again, this time, 21 seconds into double OT as he zipped behind the last Tulsa defender and received a laser guided pass to send “The Bullet” in alone.  Sorkin broke away from coverage,  and wired a quick shot over the shoulder of Tulsa goaltender Phillip Babb.

Blazers goaltender Ole Nilsen backstopped the Blazers for a second consecutive game in goal making 30 saves on 32 shots.

“When there is that much open ice, speed kills. We went with 3 forwards, all of which can move well but can finish, in the double OT 3 on 3 and thats what they did,” said head coach Tyler Fleck.

Fleck opted to go with Sorkin, Romanov and Kole Hudson to start the 3 on 3 overtime and it paid off.

“Three on three is exciting. It’s meant to be that way. We gambled a bit maybe by not putting any defensemen out there but those three have very high hockey IQ. They waited for the turnover and Sorky broke loose. Romy took a hard hit and made an unreal pass at the same time right on the tape. Sorkin made no mistake. A great hockey play all around.”

The Blazers return back to Oklahoma City Saturday when the Oilers return for a 7:30 game.

The Blazers Ice Centre is expected to be at 100% capacity for Saturdays game with rival Tulsa.

All Star tickets will be on sale with advance pricing during the game. The All Star game is January 2nd in OKC as the Blazers take on the WSHL All-Stars at 7PM. The All Star game will also include a unique skill competition to see who is the best of the best in all the specific skills from around the league.
