Special Teams Prove Costly, Blazers Fall to Eagles 5-1

Saturday night, the Oklahoma City Blazers took on the Colorado Eagles for the second of their three-game weekend set. Ivan Bondarenko scored the lone goal for the Blazers, as they fell 5-1 to the Eagles. With 10 PKs in their Friday night, the penalty woes continued for OKC, putting themselves shorthanded another six times on Saturday. Colorado capitalized on those chances, scoring twice with the man-advantage.

Oklahoma City earned six power play chances of their own, but could not find the net. The Eagles would score during one of those, giving OKC their first shorthanded goal against in 2017.

Drennen Atherton made 34 saves in the loss, as he falls to 12-3-0 on the season. In net for the Eagles, Braden Lajoie made 24 saves as he improved to 13-3-2 with the win.

With the El Paso Rhinos off, the Blazers remain in second place of the Midwest Division and sit eight points back of first.

The series concluded on Sunday, January 8th at 1:00p Central Time. The game can be seen on WSHL TV and at our official watch party at Falcone’s Pizza in Moore.
