Nemeth Sets WSHL Points Record in Win over Dallas

Nemeth Makes History

Oklahoma City Blazers forward Tomas Nemeth became the Western States Hockey League’s all time points leader with a goal and two assists over the Dallas Snipers on Sunday. Nemeth’s three point night helped the Blazers sweep the weekend series with the Dallas. OKC and the Snipers got into a wild old fashion shootout with the Blazers offense doubling up the hometown club by a score of 10-5. With the win the B’s improve to 16-3 on the season and have a firm grip on first place in the Midwest Division.

In all, 11 different Blazers registered a point and Braden Lajoie got the win in goal.

But it was Tomas Nemeth who was the star of the evening.

Heading into Sunday’s contest, Nemeth trailed former El Paso Rhino’s star forward Austin Balko by 1 point and would tie the record with an assist on Marek Charvat’s first of the season 3:45 into the first. Then, with the Blazers on the power play, Nemeth would set up teammate Tomas Rubes for his 2nd point of the period breaking Balko’s record set back in 2010. Nemeth would add a nifty goal of his own in the 3rd period for good measure.

Nemeth’s career stats to date are now 94 goals and 168 assists for 262 points in 116 career WSHL games.  A career league best average of an amazing 2.26 points per game. Balko had 260 points in 171 games for a career average of 1.52 points per game.  The Blazer’s Nemeth, is on pace to break the all time goals record held by former Phoenix Polar bears forward Blake Barkwell of a career 125 goals set back in 2007 and assists record set by Tulsa’s Bobby Watson of a 169 career assists set back in 2013 (Nemeth needs 1 to tie).

“On behalf of the Blazers and the organization I would like to congratulate Tomas on this magnificent achievement. Nemo will go down as one of the greatest players to play in this league and he’s forever a part of it’s amazing history,” said head coach Tyler Fleck. “It’s not everyday you come across a player with the level of consistency he has shown. Congratulations Nemo.”

The Blazers and Nemeth get back at it this Wednesday, the night before Thanksgiving when OKC host cross state rival Tulsa. Gametime is 7PM at the Blazers Ice Centre.

The first 100 fans through the doors will receive a free Tomas Nemeth “WSHL’s All Time Point’s Leader” poster.
