Blazers return from Salt Lake

The Oklahoma City Blazers returned home after a grueling 4 day road trip that saw them trek 2428 miles deep into moose country and back. The Blazers took on the Mountain division’s Salt Lake City Moose in Utah for a 3 in 3 showdown with the Blazers winning all 3 games. The sweep of the Moose catapulted the Blazers into sole possession of first place in the Midwest Division. Friday the Blazers blanked the hometown Moose by a score of 1-0 on a very strong performance by goaltender Filip Kostka who was perfect making 27 saves on 27 shots. Adam Skutchan scored the lone goal for the B’s. On Saturday the Blazers had a 3 goal third period pushing the Blazers past the hard working Moose hockey club by a final score of 4-1. Kostka was stellar again as OKC received a pair of goals from Tomas Rubes and single tallies from Lubos Vacek and Jiri Hajda. Sunday was all Blazers as they burned the hometown Moose 6-2 in a one sided affair. Kirill Romanov had 2 goals and 2 assists to lead the way for Oklahoma City. Johan Sorkin also added a pair of goals to go along with single goal efforts from Captain Michal Beranek and leading scorer Tomas Nemeth. Kostka picked up his 3rd win of the weekend in net for the Blazers.

“We were focused and played as a team. I am very proud of our guys for the things they showed this weekend. Everyone contributed,” said head coach Tyler Fleck. “It was a very long trip but it was a great opportunity for the guys to bond and thats what they did. They made the most of it. ”

The Blazers return to action this upcoming weekend in OKC as the Mountain divisions Cheyenne Stampede make their first trip to the Sooner state. Gametime Friday is 7:30PM and is service men and women appreciation night. The team expects a sellout so get there early. Halloween Saturday is a 3:00 PM puck drop with a costume contest and post game trick or treat skate with the Blazers. Game 3 on Sunday will go at the normal 2:30PM. All games are at the Blazers Ice Centre.
