Oklahoma City Blazers Hockey

Meet Head Coach Gary Gill

The Oklahoma City Blazers are proud to introduce Gary Gill as the new head coach of the Oklahoma City Blazers. Gill will be taking the reins of the Western States Hockey League team, beginning with the 2017-18 season. Gill brings a wealth of coaching experience to the Blazers, spending time in the junior ranks for the past five seasons with the Cheyenne Stampede (WSHL), Vermont Lumberjacks (EHL), and the Florida Jr. Blades (MetroJHL).

Gill’s resume begins in 2000 with Mechanicsburg High School, Pennsylvania., with Gill leading his team to the finals of the Central Pennsylvania Interscholastic Hockey League. Gill’s success quickly led him to the collegiate level with Shippensburg University and their first ever winning record. In 2005, Gill joined Penn State University (Berks). Throughout his tenure with the Nittany Blue Lions, Gill earned NECHL Coach of the Year honors, two DVCHC championships, including an undefeated 31-0 season. Following his collegiate career, Gill entered the professional ranks as an assistant coach with the Reading Royals (ECHL) and the Mississippi RiverKings (CHL/SPHL), and was head coach of the Rome Frenzy (FHL).

“I am honored to be a part of the heritage of the Oklahoma City Blazers,” Gill stated. “I’m looking forward to carrying on the great tradition of the Blazers name.”

“Tyler Fleck has done an amazing job with this team, his passion is second to none. I will look to build on that, and can’t wait to begin the journey of bringing the Thorne Cup to Oklahoma City.”

Gill’s history and penchant of success and the development of players will be a huge addition to the Oklahoma City Blazers. Stay tuned to okcblazershockey.com and our Twitter and Facebook channels for news as we build towards the 2017-18 WSHL season.
