Matt Levene to Odessa Jackalopes of the NAHL

The Oklahoma City Blazers announced today that red hot forward Matt Levene has been loaned to the Odessa Jackalopes of the North American League. Levene is the second Blazer this season to be given the nod with a North American League team. Goaltender Austin Kirby was called up by the Amarillo Bulls in October. Ironically, Levene will be traveling to Amarillo in the morning where he will meet up with the Jackolopes to take on the Bulls.

“Matt Levene, has been unstoppable lately,” said Blazers head coach Tyler Fleck. “Matty will have no problem jumping in their line-up and contributing immediately. He’ll be the fastest player on their team. I’d say he’s the best player in the entire WSHL right now.”

Odessa head coach Greg Gatto, played several years in the old CHL against the Blazers bench boss and have a good relationship, something Fleck says is vital to moving his players to the next level.

“I know what Gatts is looking for and it is nice to be able to send one of our guys up the road to help his team out. He’s someone I trust. Having good contacts is a major part of the game. I want to be able to use them to promote as many of our players as possible.”

The Blazers also have another tie to Odessa in Jackalopes General Manager David Holt who spent most of his career as a member of the “All Star” front office staff the Blazers had from the 1990’s to 2009. Fleck and Holt have maintained contact since the Blazers folded.

Fleck expects Levene will be back with the Blazers when they hit the road next Thursday night as they head for a showdown in El Paso vs the Rhino’s. The Blazers and Levene will put their flawless 11 and 0 record on the line in the first ever head to head meeting with the defending national champion Rhino’s. Game time Friday night is 7:30 PM.
