Kirby called up to NAHL

Kirby gets the call from North American League

The Oklahoma City Blazers announced today that 19 year old goaltender Austin Kirby has been called up to the Amarillo Bulls of the North American League. The 6’1” Spokane native stopped 20 0f 21 shots in last weekend win over the Springfield Express.

“This is a great opportunity for Austin,” said head coach and general manager Tyler Fleck. “ We said from the beginning that we would become the premiere development franchise and move players on to the next level. That’s what we intend to do with as many of our players as possible. He (Austin) may be up for a week, a month, or the rest of the year we don’t know. What I do know is that Auzzy will push the goaltenders they have there right now for a roster spot. The kid can play. We are excited for him to have an opportunity to impress at the next level.”

Kirby will travel to Amarillo on Monday and be with the team Tuesday for practice.

The Blazers remaining two goaltenders are more than capable of carrying the load in Kirby’s absence. Sixteen year old Braden Lajoie who has been rock solid throughout training camp, and newly acquired veteran Jakub Krejci will battle it out for the starting job.

The Blazers open up their inaugural season in the WSHL this weekend with a trio of games in Wichita vs the Thunder. For more information on tickets and the team, call the Blazers office at 405-888-0195.

Oklahoma City opens up at home on Friday the 24th, Saturday the 25th and Sunday the 26th vs the Dallas Snipers.Kirby Call up pic
