The Oklahoma City Blazers announced their first signing of the 2016-17 season as Jared Guffey makes his return to the team. The 6’1 190 pound defenseman was a mainstay last seaspn for the Blazers on their way to Midwest Division Championship.

“Jared Guffey has developed into a great dman over the past 2 seasons. He’s a very dependable player all over the ice. He does anything he’s asked and will be a major piece of team this year,” said Tyler Fleck. ” I’ll look to Guff to be one of our leaders this year, his work ethic and the way he carries himself on and off the ice is admirable. He plays Blazer hockey.”

Last season the hard hitting Guffey tallied 2 goals and 15 assists to go along with 44 penalty minutes for OKC while playing in all 52 regular season games.

“I look forward to meeting all the new talent and new men that I can call my brothers. Me, the returner for the 3rd year, I know what Coach Fleck wants and his expectations. I will strive for them myself and strive to get the team on those same expectations as well,” said Guffey. ”

The Blazers hit the ice for training camp on September 5th and Guffey and his new teammates have one thing on their mind.

A shot at a Thorne Cup.

“I expect us to go to the end and win it all and in the process see some tight bonds with each other and secure brotherhoods. We expect to see our fans come cheer their hearts out again. The fans are the heart of the team and we need them to cheer us on. That’s what really gets the boys going is our fan support and passion for us. I am excited to come back and live the dream with the Oklahoma City Blazers and be the best player and teammate I can be.”

Defenseman Jared Guffey is the first player announced for the upcoming season.

“We have a great core that we have built around for this year. Our fans are in for a real treat with some of the players we have coming in. We should be solid,” said Fleck
