Depleted Blazers Finish Off Tulsa

Blazers 5 tulsa 2

The Oklahoma City Blazers finished a 5 game sweep of the Tulsa Oilers Sunday in Tulsa winning by a score of 5-2. Kirill Romanov had a pair of goals while Johan Sorkin was again credited with the game winner midway through the 3rd. Denis Skokor notched his 2nd of the year and Kole Hudson’s shorthanded empty netter sealed the victory.

The Blazers had to dig deep as it was their 4th game in 5 nights and were without several key players. Captain Michal Beranek and Kaleb Foreman were suspended while top forwards Adam Skutchan and Tomas Rubes were out with injury. OKC was also without defenseman Colton Nelson who was called up to the USHL’s Muskegon Lumberjacks early Sunday morning. If that wasn’t enough, Pavel Oxiouta didn’t finish the game after a hard crash into the boards after being hauled down on a breakaway attempt.

The Blazers dressed defenseman Roderick Van Den Hout for the first time in 2 weeks who is coming off a pair of injuries. Van Den Hout saw limited action due to not being fully ready to play.

Filip Kostka got the win in goal again for the Blazers and made several key saves throughout the game to give the B’s a chance to win.

“We were very short, but everyone contributed and picked up the slack. It was a very gutsy effort. We battled through fatigue and some guys are banged up, 4 in 5 is tough,” said head coach Tyler Fleck. ” I am proud of all the guys, especially guys like Alex Yuk and young Jaroslav Vasicek. Sometimes they don’t get a lot of ice time but they were ready and when they got out there and did a great job.”

Next up for the Blazers is a 3 in 3 in Springfield when the Blazer’s travel to Missouri to take on the Express.

The Blazer’s official watch party for the Springfield series will be at Gigglez Bar and Grill in downtown OKC.
