Blazers Belt Tulsa 7-2

The Oklahoma City Blazers moved back into second place in the Midwest division Saturday with a convincing 7-2 win over the in state rival Tulsa Jr Oilers. The Blazers dominated the visiting Oilers for the entire night peppering them in shots by a count of 55 to 17.

The Blazers got on the board two and a half minutes into the first frame when Colton Nelson notched his 6th of the season to make 1-0 Blazers. OKC continued to fire away at newly acquired Tulsa netminder Tyler Jansen but he made save after save. With under a minute to go in the first, Tulsa’s Sam Mancini would blast a rocket off the shoulder of Blazers goaltender Jakub Krejci that would trickle in to tie the game at 1 after 1.

In the second the Blazers would continue the onslaught putting up 22 shots and head to third with a 3-1 lead after goals from Dominik Vlk and Victor Ekk.

It would be Vlk’s 17th of the season and Ekk’s 2nd. Oklahoma City’s captain Hunter Smith would add a pair of goals in the third to go along with single tallies from Matthew Audette and Kirill Romanov to round out the scoring. The Blazers Oilers rivalry was in full effect on this night featuring several fights and almost 100 penalty minutes before the game was over including 1 game misconduct on each side.

OKC improves their record to 18-7 in their inaugural year while Tulsa falls to 7-17-1. The Blazers and Oilers finish off the home and home series tomorrow with a 10:30 AM tilt in Tulsa.
