Blazers Win in OT

blazers win game 1 at elpaso

The Oklahoma City Blazers defeated the El Paso Rhino’s Friday night in overtime by a score of 4-3.  Deadline acquisition Sam Mancini was the hero for the Blazers at 6:27 mark of the first overtime scoring the game winner. The Blazers carried the lead on 3 separate occasions but the defending champs were able to draw even. With the Blazers up 3-2 and under a minute to play Brighton Tomko circled in behind the Blazers goal and fed a pass up to Rhino’s defenceman David Brancik who would wire a shot into the OKC net and send the game to OT.

Oklahoma City would begin the first OT period short handed and were flawless only allowing 1 shot on goal during the penalty kill. The Blazers were awarded a power play of their own 4 minutes later which would set up the Mancini OT winner. Blazers dman Lubos Vacek would unleash a bomb from the top of the circles that was steered aside by Rhino goaltender Adam Vay but Kole Hudson would pounce on the rebound and feed a wide open Mancini in the slot for the slam dunk. Hudson finished the night with 3 assists. Kirill Romanov, Matthew Audette and Petr Kobes also added goals for OKC.

Blazer netminder Jakub Krejci was outstanding steering away 31 0f 34 shots and recording his 3rd playoff win.
