Blazers Win 11th Straight

Blazers shutout Express3-0

The Oklahoma City Blazers shutout the visiting Springfield Express Thursday night at the Cox Convention Center in Downtown OKC.  On a night where the Blazers honored the military, Jakub Krejci was stellar in net making 25 saves on 25 shots.  The Blazers got on the board with 3 minutes left in the first when Victor Ekk when between his own legs and thought the Springfield goaltender after some hard down low work by Kole Hudson. A diving Matthew Audette would redirect a cross ice feed from captain Hunter Smith into the net with under 2 minutes to play in the second to put the B’s up 2-0 after 2. Devin Burchett would put the icing on the cake with a relentless effort in front of the Springfield net halfway through the 3rd. The versatile forward found a loose puck in front and backhanded it upstairs to seal it for the Blazers. OKC welcomed two new faces to the line up Thursday. Blazers acquired Tulsa’s leading scorer late Wednesday night in Sam Mancini. The gritty offensive forward comes over from cross state rival Tulsa in completion of a trade that sent Taner Byrd up the turnpike for future considerations. Blazers head coaching GM Tyler Fleck also made a deal for Colorado Eagles forward Luke Galatiuk. Galatiuk led the WSHL last year in fighting majors and also added 15 goals on the season.

“Mancini and Galatiuk are pieces of the puzzle we need to win a title. I thought Mancini was arguably our top forward tonight and Galatiuk brings a very nasty dimension to our hockey club. Both these guys fit very well into our system.” said Fleck. “I thought we struggled tonight however with getting some flow going. We rolled 4 lines all night and some guys had trouble getting into it. It definitely wasn’t our best game. The line of Kobes, Nelson and Mancini were hands down our best line tonight. Good to see Mancini and Galatiuk fit in well right off the bat. Jakub Krejci proved again tonight why he’s one of the best goalies in the league.”

The Blazers and Springfield get at it again tomorrow at 8:30 PM at the Blazers Ice Center. Watch all game live on fasthockey.com.
