Taner Byrd Traded to Tulsa

The Oklahoma City Jr Blazers announced today that they have traded forward Taner Byrd to the Tulsa Jr Oilers in exchange for future considerations. The first year Byrd had 29 penalty minutes in 15 games for the Blazers.

“We liked everything about Taner here. He a very tenacious player and did everything we’d asked of him. He was in a tough spot with limited playing time due to him being a first year guy and the depth we have. The trade was request from Taner to go to Tulsa and play a regular shift. We accommodated him,” said head coach Tyler Fleck.

The 17 year old Oklahoma City native had yet to record a point in his junior career. Although Byrd requested the trade, part of the deal is that Blazers would again retain his rights at the conclusion of the 14-15 season so he can return next year.

“Taner can play in this league and his rights will come back to us for next year. We wish him nothing but the best of luck for the rest of this year with Tulsa. I believe he will help their hockey club.”

Byrd will make his Oilers debut this weekend ironically enough against his former team when they come to OKC Saturday for the first of four consecutive games vs the Blazers. Gametime at the Blazers Ice Center is 5PM CST.
