The Oklahoma City Blazers announced today that they have signed forward Tomas Rubes to a contract for the 15-16 season. The native of the Czech Republic played last season for the Energie Karlovy Vary of the Molodezhnaya Hokkeinaya Liga (MHL).
“This is a big signing. Tomas is a bluchip player. He’s coming out of the MHL, which is Russian major junior. That league is directly affiliated with the KHL (Kontinental Hockey League) which is the NHL of Russia,” explained Blazers head coach Tyler Fleck.
The 5’8” 170 pound lefty is the second forward, along with Kole Hudson, to be announced for the upcoming season and Fleck expects Rubes to be an impact player immediately.
“He’s not a big guy but he’s an electric player. I fully expect him to be an offensive catalyst for our hockey club. In my opinion, Tomas has the ability to play at the pro level or NCAA D1 level already, whatever he chooses. So we are excited to get him in a Blazer uniform thats for sure.”
Rubes becomes the 5th Blazer announced for the 15-16 Western States League season.
