Blazers Sign Big Time Forward

The Oklahoma City Blazers Junior Hockey Club announced today that they have signed forward Hunter Smith. The Carlyle, Saskatchewan native is the first Canadian born player to sign on for the 2014-15 season.

“We are thrilled with this signing. Hunter has junior experience, and it’s not just some Tier two league experience. He has played games in arguably the best junior league on the planet.” said head coach and General manger Tyler Fleck.

Smith 19, who stands 6’0” and weighs 185 lbs., was selected by the Brandon Wheat Kings of the Canadian Hockey League in 2010 and had his rights transferred to the Red Deer Rebels where he made his major junior debut.

“ Hunter will be one of the best players in this league. He can play in all situations and is very versatile. We’ll likely see him quarterbacking our PP as well. Adding a player like this is just another piece of the puzzle as we continue to tool our roster with players that can help us win a title.”

“I look forward to playing against some of the top players in the U.S. and travelling part of the country I haven’t seen,” Smith said. “ I don’t know a whole lot about Oklahoma City, just that it’s warm year round and from what I hear it’s a great place to live and play hockey. It will be good to get out of the cold winter and experience something new.”

The Blazers begin their inaugural season as members of the WSHL this fall and
host the Dallas Ice Jets in the home opener on October 24th. For Tickets call 405-888-0195 or email info@okcblazershockey.com.
