Blazers Season Ends, Wichita Eliminates OKC

Down 1-0 in the Midwest Division Semifinals series against the Wichita Thunder, the Oklahoma City Blazers looked to tie things up and force a third game on the weekend. It would end up with the firepower of the Thunder closing things out, and eliminating the Blazers with a 7-2 win, winning the series 2-0.

Wichita took control of the game early, scoring the first five goals of the game to take a 5-0 lead well into latter stages of the second period. Victor Ekk put Oklahoma City on the board at the 18:20 mark of the second, assisted by Cory King and Griffin Wiencek.

A quick strike by Vitali Mikhailov in the third period attempted to give the Blazers a comeback run, but two final goals by the Thunder secured the victory and series win by Wichita.

Erik Spath made 36 saves in the win for the Thunder, stopping a total of 68 on the weekend.

Phil Babb started and ended the game for OKC, making nine saves in 29 minutes of play. Drennen Atherton picked up 13 saves in 31 minutes.
