The Oklahoma City Blazers lost in overtime to the Wichita Thunder on Saturday by a score of 3-2. Wichita forward Peter Cicmanec scored the winner with 1:37 left in th first overtime to steal the game for the Thunder. Cicmanec had a pair of goals on the night.

Oklahoma City got out to a 2 goal lead in the first period off of a laser beam slapper from Tomas Nemeth and a rebound slam dunk by Ivan Bondarenko. That would be all the offense the Blazers could muster however as once again Thunder goaltender Erik Spath stood on his head to give the Thunder a chance. Oklahoma City once again peppered Wichita in the shots on goal department by a count of 58-29.

“We didn’t bare down in the scoring areas. Guys took it for granted maybe a bit. We missed tap ins and empty nets regularily throughout the course of the game. We need to be hungry, I don’t think we were,” explained head coach Tyler Fleck.

The Blazers went 0-5 on the powerplay, Wichita went 1 for 6.

“Their special teams outplayed our special teams, end of story. When you score on the PP and dont get scored on while killing, you win games, simple as that.”

The Blazers will take on the Thunder again Sunday at 330PM for the final of the 3 in 3 set against Wichita. OKC will welcome back Captain Michal Beranek to the lineup after serving a 3 game suspension.

“Getting Berry back will change the game, we missed his physicality the last 2 nights. So that’s a plus heading into Sunday.”
