Czech training Camp Day 1 Pic

The Oklahoma City Blazers completed Day 1 of their Spring Training Camp in the Czech republic Friday as 40 players were tested in two separate ice sessions in the City of Plzen.

The morning session was an a high paced practice run by head coach Tyler Fleck, Zac Desjardins and Czech coach Martin Barcak.

“These guys were ready to battle from the first whistle this morning,” said Fleck. “They caught onto the drills pretty quickly and once they got a few reps in the pace for the most part was above normal in my opinion. Several of these guys possess very high skill sets. Exactly what we are looking for.”

The Blazers in Czech will hit the ice a total of 6 times in 3 days. With the first 2 out of the way, there will be a morning practice and afternoon game Saturday and the same on Sunday.

Fridays afternoon session featured the Red team vs the Black team. Team Red held a 3-1 lead into the third period before 3 quick strikes by the Black team to put them up by one.  Trailing 4-3 with seconds to play and the goalie pulled, Red team forward, Blazer veteran and Rhino killer Tomas Rubes was left all alone in front of Black team goalie Jonas Stekr. Rubes made a nifty move to beat Stekr at the final buzzer to tie the game.

Final score Red Team 4, Black Team 4.

“We saw a lot today, some very good talent and guys that can play. That is the reason we came here. I am looking forward to tomorrow. It will be even better than day 1. We have something very good in the making, something the fans in OKC will be excited to see.”
