Blazers Earn Series Win, Defeat Eagles in OT

The Oklahoma City Blazers and the Colorado Eagles met for the final game of their three-game weekend series, each looking to earn the series win after winning one apiece in the previous two games. Sunday, both teams went back and forth on the scoresheet, with the Blazers coming out on top.

In regulation, the Blazers picked up goals from Martin Hajsman, Victor Ekk, and Connor Dunn. Dunn picked up his first goal in an OKC Blazers jersey since joining the team prior to the Western States Shootout.

With the game tied 3-3 after regulation time, Oklahoma City earned the win as Drake Johnson shot the puck from the point and scored as the puck went untouched past the Eagles goaltender, assisted by Kirill Romanov and Ivan Bondarenko. Romanov led the Blazers in scoring by earning three assists in the game, while Bondarenko added a pair of assists of his own.

All three goals by the Eagles came on the power play, with the league-leading penalty kill unit of Oklahoma City uncharacteristically going 4-for-7 on the PK. The PK unit also picked up a goal, OKC’s first shorthanded goal of 2017. The Blazers power play unit went 2-for-4 with the man advantage.

Blazers goaltender Drennen Atherton played in his third straight game of the weekend, making 50 saves in the win and improving to 13-3-0. Eagles goaltender Braden Lajoie made 40 saves in the loss, falling to 13-3-3 on the season.

Since falling to the Eagles in the Plains Conference Finals last season, both teams have now won three games apiece. Oklahoma City will meet the Eagles again, this time in OKC, in February.

Oklahoma City returns home to take on the Tulsa Oilers on Wednesday, January 11th at 7:30 Central Time. You can purchase tickets for the game at the Blazers Ice Centre box office, one hour prior to puck drop. You can also call the Blazers office at 405-601-6489.
