Blazers Call Up Besser

The Oklahoma City Blazers announced today that they have called up 6’6″ defenseman Mason Besser from the Rochester Rebels. The Rebels are the NCPHL affiliate of the Blazers.

Oklahoma City will be without defenseman Kody Smith for friday night’s game in Dallas due to a suspension handed out opening weekend and have a two more defenders hampered by injuries.

“We are not 100% on the backend right now with Smitty’s suspension and a couple other guys hurting. We have been in touch with our affiliate in Rochester and Rebels Head Coach Tom Donnelly has been very impressed with Besser to this point,” said Blazers Head Coach and President Tyler Fleck. “We’ll give him a shot. He’s a big kid and has a ton of upside. He moves well for the size of frame he carries and did well with the speed today in practice.”

For the Rebels this season, Besser has been the leader on the back end with 3 goals and 4 assists to go along with 17 penalty minutes in 10 games.

The Besser call up is not the first movement between the Blazers and their affiliate this season. Forwards Jaroslav Vasicek and Viliam Seliga were sent down on a conditioning stint over Halloween weekend helping the Rebels win a pair of games over the Lake Erie Eagles. The Blazers duo scorched Erie for a combined 10 points in just 2 games.

“Our affiliation with Rochester is a feather in our cap. It’s a good feeling to know you have players you can call up at any time as well as create another place for players to develop in our system. There are really not many teams if any that have a working relationship at this level like this. We plan to continue to utilize it.” Fleck stated.

Besser will get his first taste of the WSHL tomorrow night when the Blazers play in Dallas. Gametime is 7:30PM CST and can be watched live on WSHL TV.

Falcone’s Pizzeria in Moore is the official watch place of Blazers Hockey this weekend featuring $15 pizzas and $1 beer specials. Falcone’s is located at 1409 N. Moore Ave, Moore OK 73160.

The Blazers next home series is Nov 18,19 and 20 when the host the Springfield Express. For tickets call 405-601-6489.
