The Oklahoma City Blazers announced today that defenseman Lubos Vacek has re-signed for the 15-16 season. Vacek Becomes the third Blazer announced for the upcoming Western States Hockey League season.
The hulking 6’2”, 210 pound native of the Czech Republic was one of the top defensemen in the entire WSHL last season and led the Blazers dcore in scoring with 5 goals and 31 assists in just 31 games.
“Lou is a force. He’s a three zone dman that can play defense, has a very good transition game and supports the rush very well offensively,” said head coach Tyler Fleck. “I think he has all the raw tools to be among the elite in this league and am very glad to have him back.”
Vacek returns in his final year of junior eligibility to OKC and has his eyes focused on one thing.
“I think we had a good season and the conditions were great for us. It was just bad luck that we lost with El Paso,” Vacek said from Prague, Czech Republic monday. “(This year) we beat them and win the Western States Hockey League.”
Last season Vacek enjoyed a brief stint in the USHL after a call up to Waterloo and may see some time there again this year. But if that doesn’t work out, he’s happy to be a Blazer once again.
“I am so thankful for the coaching staff (in OKC). And the All Star game is a great opportunity to play against the best players from the WSHL. I am excited.”
Vacek joins fellow teammates Kole Hudson and Drake Johnson as the latest Blazers signings for what is sure to be an exciting 15-16 season for Blazer nation.
